Piedmont Wine Education: The Virtual Classes and Registration

Piedmont wine education – here’s the schedule!

As explained in my last post, we’ve kicked off a Piedmont wine education program with Ignobles out of NYC. We hope to make this a regular thing, so we hope you’ll check back periodically for classes and programs.

Sarah and Anna of Ignobles began their side hustle as in-home wine education planners, so once travel is a go again, we hope to bring Piedmont to New Yorkers with their help (and, stay tuned for other locations – details to come)!

To support their local community, Ignobles and Sara Olocco are asking for a suggested donation to ROAR NYC, an organization raising funds to support individuals facing unprecedented economic hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Five percent of wine sales will be donated to ROAR.

Piedmont Wine Education Sessions

Our goal with these programs is to lead you in learnings and we offer ongoing wines for purchase that we believe are excellent examples. Please know that it is not required to have these wines and certainly not to open them all at once. For our first few sessions, we are starting you with a starter list of the usual suspects of Piedmont wine as well as some fun indigenous Piedmont wines. If all goes well, we plan to do more sessions with and supplemental wine offers – the next to include Barbaresco, Barolo, and Riservas.

A reminder, all the wines we offer are specially selected as limited production, hard-to-find so that you can experience the Piedmont wine region right from home.

Piedmont Wine Education: The Schedule

Find the list and dates of events on the IGNoble Grapes site, but here is the rundown (they will be updated as sessions are added):

May 30th @ 13:00 / 1:00pm EST | 8:00 PM / 20:00 CET:  BYOB Aperitivo <FREE!>

Join Ignoble Grapes in conversation with Valerie, Sara, and Stefano & Elisabetta from Enoteca La Vite Turchese. The Piedmont-based crew (myself, Stefano, Elisabetta, Sara, and Chef Denise) will be at the Enoteca in Barolo, chatting with y’all about the upcoming virtual wine and cooking events. Learn about the Langhe and Roero regions and hear about the amazing wines we’ve selected to share with you.

For this “BYOB” event, we invite you to open your favorite aperitivo wine.

June 20th @ 13:00 / 1:00pm EST | 8:00 PM / 20:00 CET: Native Grapes of Piedmont Masterclass

Nebbiolo and barbera are certainly among the most known grapes of Piedmont, but how about the lesser-known ones? Join Piemontese native Sara Olocco for a masterclass on some of the unknown native grape varieties of Piemonte to get to know what’s out there, beyond Barolo and Barbaresco.

You’ll learn about grapes such as erbaluce, nascetta, freisa, and pelaverga while talking history, traditions, and the stories behind the grapes and the artisanal producers.

June 27th @ 1:00pm EST: Nebbiolo Exploration: The Langhe < suggested donation: $15; 100% of proceeds donated to ROAR NY>

After learning about the lesser-known grape varieties of Piemonte from Sara, we’ll pay tribute to the grape variety that the region is so known and loved for, nebbiolo. We’ll discuss the wide-variety of nebbiolo-based wines hailing from Piedmont, with a focus on the styles of Langhe. We encourage participants to open either the Chiara Boschis or Alberto Viberti Langhe Nebbiolo DOC, or the Luigi Oderro Barbaresco Rombone DOCG from our featured wine selections for this event!

TBD Date: Italian Cooking & Wine Pairing

Join us for a cooking demonstration with Denise Pardini of Castello di Sinio in the heart of Barolo and Barbaresco wine country! Denise and Val will select some special recipes to pair with the wines in our offer. Indicate your interest in this virtual cooking class when you order your wines, so we can follow up with more details.
